So YES – it’s definite, you are coming to Croatia! You will spend some time with us. We are extremely happy about it and want to give you some packing tips to make your life much easier. Nowadays airlines are charging a fortune for an extra bag, so be smart and keep your packing list as short as possible. Even if you are traveling with your own car, why should you spend too much time for packing and unpacking unnecessary things.
Collect Important Travel Documents,Cash and Credit Cards.
Think about collecting the following documents in one place:
- Passport or Personal ID – Citizens of EU countries may enter Croatia using their national identity cards instead of a passport.
- Visa – please check the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for visa requirements for Croatia.
- Credit cards – Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and Diners are accepted frequently; American Express less frequently. All stores and hotels accept credit cards, but in small, family owned business like ours, you still have to pay in cash. Doctors, medical clinics and hospitals also do not accept credit cards.
- Cash – the Croatian currency is the Euro.
- Health insurance card – European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) will allow you to access public healthcare provided in Croatia at a reduced cost, or sometimes for free.
- Travel insurance
- Reservations and itineraries
- Apartments Holidays Roko contact information – so you can give us a call whenever you need us.
- Transportation tickets – plane, train, bus etc.
Technology.
Maybe staying connected is not the best idea for enjoying your time away from the office, but of course it’s up to you. Yet, wifi is available throughout the building.
- Mobile device and charger
- Laptop, notepad and charger
- Camera / video camera and charger – sometimes a smartphone will do the job.
- Electrical converters and adapters – Croatia uses 220V, 50 Hz frequency.
Everyday basics.
Your luggage content depends on the season you will visit Croatia. Here we are focusing on summer months, so it’s all about fun at the beach and relax under the sun. Most of the items mentioned below you can buy here, but still we want you to know what is important.
- Day pack – very handy for a wallet, mobile phone, bottle of water etc.
- Sunglasses – necessary must have.
- Sunscreen – the sun can be very strong so wear plenty of sunscreen – we promise you will still get your enviable holiday tan. In case you didn’t listen to us and got yourself sunburned, you will need as well the item mentioned below.
- Sunburn relief – we know, you didn’t mean to get sunburned. You just lost track of time and now you are looking like a lobster. Act fast to cool it down!
- Hat or cap – especially for the kids, protection for your head and ears.
- Water shoes – rocky coastline and pebble beaches are beautiful, but your feet won’t like it, another reason are sea urchins. Stepping on them can be very painful and even spoil your vacations.
- Beach bag – there’s so many things you have to take, so maybe one is not enough?
- Beach towels – we provide bathroom towels for guests in their apartments. That cannot be taken to the beach or swimming pool area.
- Beach mat – lounge comfortably all day long.
- Swimming gear – a mask and snorkel, or at least googles.
- Health items – first aid kit you will find by us, but don’t forget: personal prescriptions, allergy medicines, pain and fever relievers, your multivitamins, motion sickness pills, eye drops etc.
- The Toiletry – toothbrush, toothpaste, personal hygiene items, hair products, shaving kit etc. – most of these you can buy in the store next door, the choice is rather limited, but still – few kilograms less in your luggage. We provide you with some essential toiletries kit: hand soap, shampoo, body lotion and shower caps.
Clothes and shoes.
Summer months are very hot, so lightweight, natural fabrics are the best choice. Casual clothes are the norm for a day activities. For eating out in the evenings – even most of the restaurants are not formal at all, people are dressing up.
- Swimming suit – definitely the most important piece of clothing. Bring two – you don’t want to stay wet. Let one dry and wear the other.
- Beach poncho or scarf – actually you don’t need clothes if you have one.
- Sandals – first choice for a pair of shoes, leave your high heels at home.
- Walking shoes – comfortable shoes are a must if you plan to visit Croatian national parks or even just walk through narrow streets of all the beautiful historical sites around Grebastica.
- Light waterproof jacket – keep you warm in case of unexpected weather change. Even it doesn’t happen very often.
And now: dresses, t-shirts, shorts, trousers, shirts, pants, sweaters, sleepwear, underwear, socks, jewelry – it’s totally up to you. Please just keep one in mind – if you are planning to spend most of your time in Croatia at the beach – you won’t wear half of your clothes even once. Good example is my mother, coming every year with two suitcases and ending up in a swimming suit and scarf all day long. Just for the evening walk, she loves to dress up a little, like all of us do.
You don’t need to take:
- Bedding and bed linen
- Bathroom towels
- Sewing kit
- Kitchen utilities
- Hair dryer
- Toillet paper
- Paper towels
- Bottled water – we drink Krka water from the tab.
- Food – try our cuisine
- Beer – our Karlovačko is delicious.
Small summary.
Pack smart:
less luggage to carry
save time on packing and unpacking
save money on baggage fees.
If you plan to visit other parts of Croatia during your trip – do climate control research and pack some warmer clothing. There are three different climate zones in Croatia.
